'Communion' series from Miroir Noir started out as an exercise to piece together the painting developments and technical discoveries Miroir Noir had made in the earlier series 'Propter Nuptias'.
Old family photographs of unknown people randomly found at flea markets around Europe were the model for the images. They were all group photos of people standing, supposedly before or after an extraordinary but undetermined event related to religion, such as first communions, weddings or funerals. The emotions shown were basically expectation and pride, probably prompted by the special clothes and also the unusual fact of being photographed.
