Prospective Giocondas
When the spirit is reinventing, or rather busting, classic-classics, those hanging in the Louvre or in el Prado, the first painting that comes to mind, blocking out all others, is the Giaconda. I still remember a power-up year ten years ago, when I obsessively painted about a dozen versions of the Mona Lisa in a very naïve attempt to decipher the mystery of the world's most famous painting. It has never been possible to show the complete Giaconda set, except for four of them at the Strychnin Gallery Berlin in a Mona Lisa themed group-show, with Mark Ryden among other American and European painters, back in 2008. Although most of them are already sold, I kept a few for my own pleasure.
